Springs are used to adjust mechanical dock levelers to the correct position for safe loading and unloading of trucks, and then to put the dock levelers back to a storage position when they are not in use. Springs get the heaviest workout of any part on mechanical dock levelers, so they need to be replaced more often than other parts. An additional source of wear and tear on springs is their need for constant adjustment in extreme temperatures. This spring is a main spring for an Ellis mechanical dock lifter. When springs don’t work anymore, the dock leveler cannot move up or down, and the dock leveler cannot be positioned manually to the correct height.
